The Brookings Institution held a forum on reforming U.S. immigration policy. Darrell West began the event by speaking briefly about the key findings of his book, Brain Gain: Rethinking U.S. Immigration Policy. (Brookings Institution Press, 2010). He argues in the book that reform is crucial to U.S. competitiveness and that immigrants bring innovation that outweighs perceived costs. Celinda Lake then presented the findings of her poll research on immigration, which included questions about the recent Arizona immigration law. Juan Osuna talked about ongoing reform efforts at the federal level. Afterward, Mr. West moderated asked questions of the panelists, and they also responded to questions from members of the audience.
